Quality, affordable housing is a huge issue in much of the U.S., and it’s an issue that students and grads are – or soon will be – facing.
Bloomberg, Realtor.com, HousingWire, and FoxNews were among the major media outlets that reported on a solution that is widely misunderstood, and is thus hiding-in-plain-sight — the evolution from trailer houses, to mobile homes, to today’s manufactured homes. Those media outlets and others favorably covered manufactured homes in news stories in 2016, as a Google search will reveal.
Once skeptical lenders, upon seeing today’s manufactured homes, walk away impressed.
Against that backdrop, the largest manufactured housing trade show in the U.S. is taking place about 45 minutes from Memphis, TN at the Hollywood & Resorts/Casino in Tunica, MS.
While this is an industry-trade event, and is closed to the public, a special “Media Morning” has been arranged for Tuesday, March 28th at 10 AM.
Tunica’s Media Morning will include a tour of residential style manufactured homes on display, a briefing on FAQs (such as manufactured homes in windstorms, financing, durability, energy efficiency, etc.). The opportunity to ask question of industry experts and professionals, to shoot pictures and/or video are included.
U.S. Census Bureau statistics reflect that manufactured homes are about half the cost of conventional construction. A former federal regulator for the HUD Code program, Bill Matchneer, JD, and other experts have stated their belief that the efficiencies of production today yield a home that rivals conventional building, at about half-the-cost.
In his Senate testimony, incoming HUD Secretary, Dr. Ben Carson, has described manufactured homes as an important part of the affordable housing mix needed for America. Prior HUD Secretary Julian Castro has made similar comments.
About 2500 professionals from the South-Central states and from other places coast-to-coast that come to Tunica every year for the main trade event.
Press representatives from established media may be given a pass for the Media Morning, which is valid only on the day before the main show opens to the industry.
